SCHOLARSHIPS: Female seniors planning on attending college with a B average should stop by the guidance office for details concerning the Roxanne Strube Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is worth $500/semester, for a total of $2.000. Deadline is April 15. Native American seniors interested in pursuing Indian Health Services careers with a GPA of 2.0 might be interested in applying for a scholarship in Maryland. SUMMER EXCHANGE: Riverton Rotary Club is researching exchange programs. Students will spend 3 weeks exploring another country and then their “host brother/sister” returns home with them for a 3 week period. Exchanges are typically in June, July and August. Students must be between the ages of 15-19. Applications for this program are due by the end of January. If interested contact Lori Ridgway at 855-2325 or 850-7803. Guidance

THE SKI TRIP to White Pine has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 24. If you were signed up last time, just be sure to sign up at the office. If you were unable to attend last month and can go this time, pick up the information at the front desk at the HS or from Mrs. Hughes at the Career Center. Pinedale has had lots of snow so the skiing should be great. Hughes

CLOSE UP: KTRZ money and forms need to be turned in today during a lunch meeting in Mr. Chouinard’s room. This is a mandatory meeting, no excuses, be in attendance. We will collect all KTRZ materials, collect final payments from those going to D.C. this year, set up KTRZ Radio Day work schedules and set up Pizza Hut Pizza Night. All members need to attend this meeting, bring a lunch as this meeting will take most of the lunch hour.

Hey RHS! There are several nice new recycling containers throughout the high school and one in the career center. These are for plastic bottles only. Please do your part and put plastic bottles in these great new containers. There are containers in the senior and freshmen locker areas, one by the band/choir hall and another one in the commons. There is also a container in the commons at the career center.

It will cost you 50 cents for a ball, but if it comes back undamaged, you get your money back. You will need to leave your ID until you turn everything back in. SCHOLARSHIPS: Seniors pursuing a higher education, here is a great opportunity for you! The Kaiser Foundation is offering a $3,000/year renewable scholarship. GPA must be at least 2.5 and you must be active in school and the community. Deadline is March 9th. Seniors, the ESA Foundation is offering over 20 different scholarships. Awards and criteria vary so come down to the guidance office to pick up an application and get further information. Deadline is Feb. 1st. Seniors planning on attending UW with a GPA of 3.5 should apply for the UW Leadership Scholarship. Deadline is January 30th; this scholarship is worth $1,000 each semester! Applications are now available for the Chief Washakie Endowment Scholarship. You must have some direct participation in activities on the Wind River Reservation. The awarded amount varies. Deadline is March 2nd. Guidance

STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS RIVERTON HS WED., 1/7/09

ACTIVITIES:

CWC UPWARD BOUND students meet today during lunch in room 4 at the Career Center. Nirider

SKILLS USA meets today at 12:10pm in Mr. Gopp’s room. Gopp

EXCHANGE PROGRAM: Riverton Rotary Club has set up a “Summer Exchange” program. Students spend 3 weeks exploring another country and then their “host brother/sister” return home with them for a 3 week period. Exchanges are typically in June, July and August. Students must be between the ages of 15-19. Applications are due by the end of January. For more information contact Lori Ridgway at 855-2325 or 850-7803. Office

DECA MEMBERS - state is less than one month away. We will have a meeting on Thursday at lunch to discuss our plans for state. If you have not yet paid your dues bring $25 to the meeting. Unpaid members will be dropped from the roster and WILL NOT be allowed to participate at state. Stoehr

CAREER INTERNSHIP STUDENTS: Please see Mrs. Santee to pick up paperwork. You are responsible for setting up your own location. Forms are due back to Mrs. Santee by Monday! Santee

NEW WORK EXPERIENCE STUDENTS: Permission forms are due to Mrs. Santee by Friday! If you didn't receive yours in the mail, please see Mrs. Santee ASAP. Don't forget the meeting for new students Wednesday, Jan. 14. Santee

STUDENTS: There is now a ping pong table located in the upper RHS commons. The same rules apply as with the table in the Career Center. You may check paddles and balls out at the counselor's office. You must leave your ID and you can get it back when equipment is returned undamaged. You need to make a deposit/purchase the ball. The rules are posted on the wall by the table. Please treat all equipment with respect and do not sit on the table or place food and beverages on it. Enjoy. RHS Health Committee

IF YOU GET THE CHANCE, wander down to the weight room and check out the new equipment. We now have 3 elliptical and 10 spin bikes that we were able to purchase with our PEP Grant. We are one of only 2 schools in the state that received the grant, so we want to be sure that we take very good care of these items, as they as costly. PE Department
